Why "Picking Things Up" Is My Non-Negotiable


For years, I thought the gym meant cardio. If I wasn’t gasping on a treadmill or “toning” with those little neon dumbbells, I felt like I wasn’t doing it right. That’s the gospel most of us grew up with.


Then menopause hit—and suddenly the old playbook didn’t apply. My energy shifted, my metabolism felt stuck, and I realized hormones had been quietly running the show all along.


That’s when I saw the fork in the road: either accept muscle loss as “inevitable”… or pick up the most powerful tool I’ve found: lifting heavy.


From Dabbling to Doing

I’ll admit, weights were always the side dish to my cardio main course. I picked them up because I knew I “should,” but never gave them center stage. Now? Science—and my own body—are telling me resistance training isn’t optional. It’s essential.

I’ve stopped seeing muscle as just “looking fit.” It’s my built-in power source:

  • Blood Sugar Stability: Muscle acts like a sponge, soaking up sugar.

  • Bone Insurance: Every lift tells my bones to stay strong and dense.

  • The 24/7 Burn: Even at rest, my muscles keep my metabolism humming.


And here’s the kicker: knowing this and doing it are two different things. So I’ve made a promise to myself—picking things up isn’t negotiable anymore.
